How Mercedes classify their cars.

Mercedes-Benz is a German global automobile marque and a division of Daimler AG. The brand is known for luxury vehicles, buses, coaches, and trucks. It is one of the oldest and well know automobile brand World Wide. The company is well known for offering attractive price, style and innovation in automotive industry. The brand is known for its unique safety features and the quality of cars. Mercedes-Benz has been at the head of the pack for decades when it comes to engine design and quality automobile manufacturing.


Most of you reading this could be Automotive freak or new to automobile field. However Sometimes admirers of Mercedes-Benz do not know much about the classes or trims of the models, so here it is

S-Class ( or Special Class)



Formerly known as Sonderklasse( German for Special). It is the largest car in the Mercedes-Benz line-up. It is a full size luxury sedan. The S-Class has ranked as the world's best-selling luxury sedan.


SL- Class





Sportlich Leicht (Sport light), it means a lightweight sports car.







E- Class



Einspritzung or that it runs on fuel. This is the midsize sedan from Mercedes. Smaller in size than S class and bigger than C-Class and approximately two third the price of S-class.




C-Class


It’s the smallest sedan from Mercedes. It is the line-up for Compact Executive cars of Mercedes-Benz.








SLK-Class


The former name "SLK" was derived from sportlich (sporty), leicht(light), and kurz(short). The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class was a compact luxury roadster, produced by Mercedes-Benz. It is a shorter version of the SL, a 2 seat roadster.




CL-Class


The name CL stands for the German Coupé Leicht (Coupé-Light). It's basically an S class with 2 doors, a high-end sports coupe. The CL-Class is the coupe derivative of the S-Class full-size luxury saloon, upon which it shares the same platform. Also known as S-Coupé,




CLK-Class


Comfort leicht kurz (comfort light short). As the name says it is a shorter version of the CL. This car is a midsize sports coupe and convertible.








CLS-Class


Executive 4 door Sports Coupe. It’s based on the E Class platform but contains more luxurious interior appointments which make it between the E and S Class’s in interior quality looks. So, The CLS range is positioned above the E-Class but below the S-Class in the Mercedes model range



SLR-Class

A high-performance sports car. It is a designation shared by two cars:


· Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, a 1955 sports racing car developed by Daimler-Benz

· Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, a 2004 road car co-developed by DaimlerChrysler and McLaren


G-Class


Sometimes called G-Wagen (Gelandewagen (off-roader/cross country) ) the ultimate mid-size four-wheel drive luxury SUV from Mercedes-Benz. It is boxy style and body-on-frame construction.




GL-Class



a long Gelandewagen, large full size Luxury SUV from Mercedes-Benz.






GLC-Class



Gelandewagen lightweight short. It is a smallest of all Mercedes-Benz SUV.






GLE-Class


Formally known as Mercedes M-Class is Mercedes mid-size crossover SUV. It is slotted between the smallest GLK Class and the Largest GLS class, with which it shares platform





GLS-Class



Large Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV)









AMG

Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach. AMG models pay a tribute to the founders of the company. is the high-performance brand used by Mercedes-Benz. AMG independently hires engineers and contracts with manufacturers to customize Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles.
